I teach English Language Arts because I strongly believe in the power of stories. Literature is as deeply personal as it is a communal experience. I delight in exploring how words, sentences, characters, plot structures, and themes reveal who we are as individuals and how we are as a society. We are all complicated beings in a complicated world. To communicate effectively requires a repertoire of words with which to express oneself and to connect with others in a meaningful way. That's the joy of studying literature! There is always a new perspective and way of understanding to discover.
It is a pleasure to provide my students with opportunities to experience the world around them in fresh ways, while providing them with the writing skills needed to communicate their perspectives with others. To write you have to read, but to truly read, you have to think, critique, question, wonder, and stand amazed by the words on the page. As an English Language Arts educator it is my privilege to show the ever developing minds in my classroom how to do exactly that. I truly believe in the humanistic value of literature. Reading, discussing, and writing not only prepares students to be college and career ready but promotes self-actualization, communication skills, and the development of an compassionate and honest person.
Ms. Hardi's vision: The English I classroom will work together to cultivate an atmosphere of high academic achievement and mutual respect. As an educator I will promote an invested interest in learning to foster a genuine desire to participate and succeed so that all students are "college and career ready". Teacher and student interactions will always be marked by an authentic and mindful esteem for all participants in the classroom.
I take English seriously, but I promise I'm not a literature robot! View the slideshow below to get a glimpse of a Ms. Hardi the art lover, pasta maker, family member, and friend!
